Book description
Dave is back -- and he's not taking this sitting down! What's been getting Dave Barry all worked up lately? What can possibly induce him to rise up -- yes, actually out of his chair -- in indignation? Well, lots of things. For instance: The plague of low-flow toilets (very important!) The monumental parent-misery quotient of school science fairs How the U.S. Army "lost" a one-million-dollar missile launcher The hidden dangers of wasabi "Specialty" coffees Celebrity low-fat, low-carbohydrate, low-everything diets ... Review:
This book is another great book from the Annals of Improbable research (a scientific journal about science that can not and should not be reproduced). The book lists scientific research and papers that make you think 'eh? what? why?'. Especially in interesting medical research where papers seem to be published about strange cases seen by medical specialists. There is also more semi-politics, such as the awarding of an Ig Nobel peace price to "Jacques Chirac, President of France, for commemorating the 50th anniversary of Hiroshima with atomic bomb tests in the Pacific." The book also tells about the Ig Nobel prices and the Ig Nobel ceremony. A fun read, especially if you do have something to do with science and scientists.

This book was charming and delightful. Eckert's wit and emotion shines through each short essay.

Book description
"As far as I was concerned, the French could be cold or even openly hostile. They could burn my flag or pelt me with stones, but if there were taxidermied kittens to be had then I would go and bring them back to this, the greatest country on earth." David Sedaris's new collection, Me Talk Pretty One Day, tells a most unconventional life story. It begins with a North Carolina childhood filled with speech-therapy classes ("There was the lisp, of course, but more troubling than that was my voice itself with its excitable tone and high, girlish pitch") and unwanted guitar lessons taught by a midget. From budding performance artist ("The only crimp in my plan was that I seemed to have no talent whatsoever") to "clearly unqualified" writing te... Rest of this review on the detail page
