True enough, you can get the contents of this book on the Web from the Linux Document Pages site. Still, administrators of Linux systems (particularly networks of Linux machines) will appreciate having this printed edition on hand for easy reference. The authors of Linux and its suite of utilities have done a remarkably good job of documenting their work, and the two white papers bound in Linux System Administration White Papers make enjoyable and informative reading. Olaf Kirch's contribution, The Linux Network Administrator's Guide, covers the basics of setting up and configuring a TCP/IP network among Linux computers. Kirch's document in... There seems to be some disagreement between the authors and the publisher as to which is the title, and which is the subtitle, of this work. Nevertheless, both title and subtitle imply a useful guide. To this end, each chapter contains tutorial material, discussion of the available tools, and examination of some specific problems. The authors have produced an application programming interface in Tcl and Tk, for both practical and tutorial purposes, which is available on the Internet. While the material in the book does a good job of explanation, the appearance it presents is *not* for the technically faint of heart. Creating Web pages isn't just for nerds anymore--far from it. You can't get far in any hobby without participating in its Web community; even the smallest businesses need good-looking, functional Web sites. Those facts mean you must be able to do your own site-building work, and Creating Web Pages for Dummies exists to share the skills you need to learn. This book goes a long way toward explaining Web publishing to newcomers to the field.
