Reviews (2) and details of The Internet Security Guidebook: From Planning to Deployment
Review:
Data security texts and talks often promote numerous concepts that
should be added to, or included in, security policies. There are
numerous presentations in even general computer conferences on
designing such policy documents. Few policies, however, actually get
written. Those that do are often full of holes and gaps. Writing a
security policy is an enormous undertaking, and most companies will
not allow for the resources necessary to do it well.
This uniquely valuable tool can save a great deal of time in the
process. It is a set of over 600 sample paragraphs for a policy
document, provided in both hard copy and soft copy, for ease of use.
The book starts with an overview of what policies are, as distinct

Reviews (1) and details of Information Security Policies Made Easy Version 9
Review:
It takes quite a while to figure out what Pipkin is trying to do in
this book. Ultimately, there is coverage of some of the important
basic concepts involved in information security. However, the text as
a whole is both confused and confusing.

some items of concern in risk analysis. Chapter one, called "Resource
Inventory," is concerned with data classification. It touches on, but
does not really discuss, the orthogonal nature of ...

Reviews (1) and details of Information Security: Protecting the Global Enterprise
Review:The heart of this somewhat dry book is a step-by-step guide to implementing a secure Unix network. The book defines each security issue and follows with instructions on what parameters to set, what programs to run, and which files to check. This is useful but doesn't convey much high-level knowledge in the process. You could set up a whole system according to these directions and still not really understand why or how it all works. Whether you will benefit from this cookbook approach depends on your desire to explore every last corner of Unix. After covering system configuration, the book goes on to discuss several noncommercial and commercial security programs that help you analyze your network for weaknesses. Appendices introduce related ...
