Review:
Windows NT and UNIX Integration explains how to combine the two systems to inter-operate on a common network. If you want a Unix machine to retrieve files from a Windows NT computer, it will illustrate that solution as well. Henriksen tells how to get the two operating systems to cooperate to a practical degree. In addition to the chapters on file and printer sharing, the author details basic administrative tasks in each of the two environments. Henriksen explores the similarities and differences among different Unix flavors when it comes to connecting them to Windows NT machines. Linux, SCO Unix, and Solaris rece... Review:
If you're planning on converting an existing Unix-centric network to Windows NT, Windows NT & UNIX: Administration, Coexistence, Integration & Migration does a decent job of guiding you through the process. The authors begin by comparing Windows NT and Unix generally, pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of each. This comparison assists you in deciding whether integration and migration are really necessary. Subsequently, they assume you're running both kinds of machines on a single network and explain how to perform various tasks in each of the environments. Eventually, the book migrates from system-specific administration information and focuses on getting the two operating systems in synchronization. The authors discuss network prot... Review:
While not exactly a technical reference, this book provides enough technical information to enable you to solve all but the hairiest of problems. It also walks you through just about everything that has to do with making a Windows NT Workstation 4.0 do what you want it to. Windows NT 4 Workstation Unleashed opens with a guide to surveying a computer prior to Windows NT Workstation 4.0 installation. It takes you through the installation process, and then explains in useful but not oppressive detail how to use each of the Control Panel tools. An Advanced System Configuration chapter covers installation and adjustment of modems, video cards, SCSI devices, and the like. You'll also find competent coverage of connecting an NT Workstation system ... Rest of this review on the detail page
