Review:
I must, before I begin, admit to a certain bias in favour of this book. It's a
reviewer's dream, since you can flip through it and see the orderly progression
from basic networking concepts, through the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection)
model, via the physical layers, to network protocols, and routing.
However, I would think that my appreciation for the book would be echoed by any
number of technical professionals. Basically, this book is a networking
course. The overheads/illustrations are on the left side pages. If that is
enough information, you can flip on to the next point/page. If any further
explanation is needed, it is on the facing right hand page. This format allows
both detailed information and a quickly accessible rem...

Review:
Multicast security may involve a problem of confidentiality in a
situation where confidential information is distributed to a number of
parties simultaneously, and also where you may wish to authenticate
the user, while simultaneously preserving his (or her) privacy. This
is a very interesting problem in another area of security, that of
emergency preparedness and communication. Technically, the problem
has solutions. Practically, it may not: can you completely trust the
recipients not to redistribute the confidential information that you
sent? The other obvious application lies in the realm of the ultimate
promiscuous network: wireless.
Chapter one seeks to point out the motivation and need for multicast
security, but it does not do ...

Book descriptionCandidates for the CISSP exam can now go directly to the source for study materials that are indispensable in achieving certification. The Official (ISC)2 Guide to the CISSP Exam is derived from the actual CBK review course created and administered by the non-profit security consortium (ISC)2. In addition to being an invaluable study guide, this book is detailed enough to serve as an authoritative information security resource. Both of the guide's co-authors are CISSPs, and the entire text has been reviewed and approved by Hal Tipton, Co-Founder and Past President of ISSA and Co-Founder of (ISC)2. The ten subject areas included, each a section from the Common Body of Knowledge (CBK), have been reviewed by multiple CISSPs, all of whom are re...

Review:Another of the O'Reilly "hacks" series, where the word "hack" is used in the original sense meaning clever trick or use not thought of by the original designer. This book goes into the technical details behind wireless networks and the 802.11 family of standards.
One of the primary uses of this book is gaining a lot of insight into technical backgrounds behind wireless networks. Where other publications usually skip technical details, maybe assuming the reader knows stuff or not wanting to alienate the reader with lots of details, this book tells it as it is, up to the frequencies and signal processing.
Developments go at lightning speed, and a lot has happened in the wireless world since this book was printed in 2003. Part of the technic...
