Review:
When I saw the first edition of Ramteke's book, with its singular title of "Networks," it was bemusing. Did it cover more on TCP/IP? LANs? WANs? Public switched telephone networks? Yes. And very well, too. Using three major examples of networks, with a few additional digressions, it covered the concepts of networking. So I expected the second edition to be more of the same. Ramteke obviously thought so, too, since his introduction states that he has followed the same format. However, I found the books to be quite different. This new edition is more than 200 pages longer, and the additional material appears to concentrate on many more specific network systems. Therefore, while the title originally seemed to imply a discussion of... Rest of this review on the detail page

Review:
This book covers installation, configuration and administration of Windows NT. It includes material on the planning and purchase of a network, although this content is unlikely to be of significant assistance. Chapters cover connections to TCP/IP, LAN Manager and Novell. The material is technically sound, but is written from an oddly limited perspective. Basically, this is the NT documentation revisited. copyright Robert M. Slade, 1994

Review:
This book will give you some of the terms and hardware for linking Macs with Appletalk. It will not, however, give you much in the way of concepts or details. This may be helpful to those who want handholding for a very simple network, but it won't help professionals solve problems with either Appletalk or mixed protocol networks. The lack of explanation or standard terminology ensures that network professionals or support staff will not be able to deal effectively with evaluation and management of the net, although they should be able to work out the wiring diagrams. It is unlikely that the information given will help users diagnose difficulties. If it isn't "plug and play", this book probably won't help get it going. copyright R...
