Review:
If you live in New York City, or if you are willing to call and pay the toll fees, you can "try the Internet for 30 days, risk-free". This gives you *ten minutes* of access, making it one of the most limited I have ever seen. Also, it is not "Internet" access, but simply a subset of the Pipeline BBS. The booklet gives an overview of what you *can* do on the Internet: there is almost *no* how. The installation is "plug and play"; it is unlikely that you'll be able to take advantage of a high speed connection in any case. Get on the Internet in five minutes? No, I don't think so. copyright Robert M. Slade, 1995

Review:
This is *not* the Internet anywhere. This is a 30 day test kit for email (maybe) and news, in the US and Canada, under Windows. What is really included here is a crippleware demo version of the MKS mail and newsreader software for Windows. Arrangements have been made with The Rabbit Network Inc. for thirty days' free access through an "800" number. At the end of thirty days, the demo will stop working, but you can contact MKS and get an "upgrade" for fifty bucks more (sixty, in Canada), and contact Rabbit for a proper account. (Alternate arrangements have been made with Portal. This "30 days free" is valid for only the first five hours, and requires a credit card number for validation.) The book is basically documentation of the ... Rest of this review on the detail page

Review:
It is difficult to find books which give some background to the Internet. Most guides assume that readers are either already thoroughly familiar with computer communications, or are uninterested. The history of the Internet often vaguely mentions military or government projects without giving much idea of the problems which needed solving. Given the growth in computer networking, a reference is needed which lies between non-explanations ("This computer is connected to that computer and they talk to each other") and the TCP/IP programming manuals. This book fills a lot of those gaps. After an initial introduction to the current state of the Internet, chapters two through six give a very simple introduction to data communications and th... Review:
Osborne's terrific "For Busy People" series continues with the book designed to make exploring the Net as uncomplicated as possible. Each chapter starts with a "fast forward" section the provides quick reminders and the basics. The strategies and short cuts are genuinely helpful. There are clear definitions of any Net lingo. Colorful graphics and clean layout make using this book a real pleasure. If you want to get on the Net and get going, you can trust this book to provide just what you need, and no more or less.

Review:
This is it. Internetworking Technologies Handbook represents conventional wisdom about the universe of Cisco Systems data-networking products (with the exception of Voice-over-IP products), condensed into a single volume. You ought to have this book on hand for frequent consultation, if you're engaged in running local or wide area networks (LANs or WANs) that are equipped with Cisco hardware. Don't be concerned with whether or not your data-networking environment is sufficiently complex to merit investment in this book, as operators of even the simplest setups will benefit from this authoritative work. Although it's not meant as a study aid, this book will prove helpful to candidates who are studying for Cisco professional certification; re... Rest of this review on the detail page
