Review:What makes Internet Protocol Security Architecture (IPSec) virtual private networks (VPNs) secure? A Guide to Virtual Private Networks does a great job of explaining the processes that--in theory, anyway--do. The book covers the data-handling and security aspects of these VPNs with an eye toward implementing one. You'll find a comprehensive portrait of the technologies that define VPNs governed by the IPSec specification. This book clearly explains how the Internet Security Association and Key Management Protocol (ISAKMP) and the Oakley key-exchange protocol work. It also provides details on how Internet Key Exchange (IKE) works under ISAKMP/Oakley. The workings of all these protocols are explained by dissecting transactions into their ind...

Reviews (2) and details of Guide to Virtual Private Networks
Review:
For the beginner, this book does provide an introduction to email (and
also Usenet news)--but not much more. There are a wide variety of
topics addressed, including the creation of aliases, the use of
prepared text in messages, and problems you might encounter using
telnet to connect to your home system. The details of how to use
those features are largely absent. Or, since more than twenty pages
of chapter two are devoted to a reprinting of help screens from a
variety of programs, the details are not discussed where it would be
most helpful, in the discussion of the functions, themselves.
Basically, this tells the reader, "This can be done, if you can figure
out how by yourself."
The introduction suggests that the book has many tips ...

Reviews (1) and details of All About Internet Mail (Internet Workshop Series, No. 7)
Book descriptionTelephone companies and internet service providers are pushing hard to "bundle" different services into comprehensive packages for competitive advantage. ATM (asynchronous tansfer mode) provides cost efficient bundling. This book shows telephone and internet service providers how to: deploy ATM to provide multiple services in one package; deploy TCP/IP over ATM; deploy IPv6 over ATM; develop cost efficient ATM strategies.

Reviews (2) and details of Atm for Public Networks
Review:
ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) is a reaction to the need for multiple data
use types (data, packet data, voice, video, etc.) on the new, high speed, lower
bit error rate transmission media. Related to B-ISDN (Broadband Integrated
Services Digital Network) offerings, it is a time division, multiplexed, or
"slotted", system with flexible use of "slots". The small frame size (53
bytes/octets) and reduced error control are felt to be effective for a wide
variety of bandwidth situations, and to allow faster response and greater
network efficiency.
This material is primarily of interest to those designing telecommunications
networks and infrastructure. The current work is very complete, covering areas
of little standardization (such as f...
