There seems to be some disagreement between the authors and the publisher as to
which is the title, and which is the subtitle, of this work. Nevertheless,
both title and subtitle imply a useful guide. To this end, each chapter
contains tutorial material, discussion of the available tools, and examination
of some specific problems. The authors have produced an application
programming interface in Tcl and Tk, for both practical and tutorial purposes,
which is available on the Internet.
While the material in the book does a good job of explanation, the appearance
it presents is *not* for the technically faint of heart. The overview of SMNP,
itself, for example, is not filled with C sources, but a language much more
frightening--that of...
