Book description
Welcome to The New Yorker Book of Literary Cartoons, a timeless tribute to the peerless power of the literary landscape. In 104 drawings, each of them certified by experts to be worth a thousand words (and some of them quite amusing), the essence of reading, writing, publishing, and shelving books is explored in all its glory and absurdity, from the stunning and sublime to the purple and pretentious. Here is Emma Bovary shrugging off those pesky bouts with existential boredom (on the tennis court), Dickens' fateful encounter with a martini (olive or twist?), and T.S. Eliot's "The Waste Land" thoughtfully rewritten for the Beavis and Butt-Head market ("April sucks"). Her... Rest of this review on the detail page

Review:
One can never have too many cats--or cat cartoons for that matter--as expertly demonstrated in The New Yorker Book of All-New Cat Cartoons. A follow-up to the magazine's first collection of feline funnies published some seven years ago, this delightful collection captures "a cat's-eye view of the world and the important things in life: food, sleep, love and affection, adventure, food, good friends and doggy enemies, back rubs, and food." Including the work of such notable New Yorker artists as George Booth, Stephanie Skalisky, Danny Shanahan, Arnie Levin, and Edward Koren, this endearing edition will appeal to those lucky enough to count a feline among their friends.

Book description
Even if technology makes you weep, you'll laugh! Technology--friend or foe? That's a question the cartoonists of The New Yorker have been pondering with no little skepticism--and answering hilariously--for decades. From "portable phones" that were anything but to tiny cell phones, from room-sized computers to handheld wonders, from faxes to e-mails, the brilliant artists of The New Yorker have seen and drawn it all--the sublime, the ridiculous, and the existential. Bob Mankoff, cartoon editor of The New Yorker, has culled through thousands of drawings to select the best, the funniest, and the most illuminating cartoons on technology for this collection of 126 cartoons. ... Review:
For many of us, our first memories of The New Yorker date back to childhood, when we would eagerly search through this otherwise impenetrable jungle of words to find the only thing that we could relate to--the cartoons. The New Yorker Book of Business Cartoons is a collection of 110 of the best drawings, selected by New Yorkercartoon editor Robert Mankoff, that lampoon the world of business. The cartoons date from 1938 to the present and include the work of The New Yorker's finest artists, including George Booth, Peter Arno, Roz Chast, Bruce Eric Kaplan, Leo Cullum, and William Hamilton. Whether they aim at the rise of women in business, our anxieties about the st... Rest of this review on the detail page
