Review:The Great Unraveling is a chronicle of how "the heady optimism of the late 1990s gave way to renewed gloom as a result of "incredibly bad leadership, in the private sector and in the corridors of power." Offering his own take on the trickle-down theory, economist and columnist Paul Krugman lays much of the blame for a slew of problems on the Bush administration, which he views as a "revolutionary power...a movement whose leaders do not accept the legitimacy of our current political system." Declaring them radicals masquerading as moderates, he questions their motives on a range of issues, particularly their tax and Social Security plans, which he argues are "obviously, blatantly based on bogus arithmetic." Though a fine writer, Krugman reli...

Book descriptionThe Growth Paradox At best one company in ten is able to sustain profitable growth. Yet capital markets demand that all companies seek it relentlessly and mercilessly punish those who fail. Why is consistent, persistent growth so difficult to achieve? Surprisingly, its not for lack of great ideas or capable managers, nor is it because customers are too fickle or innovation too unpredictable. Innovation fails, say Clayton M. Christensen and Michael E. Raynor, because organizations unwittingly strip the disruptive potential from new ideas before they ever see the light of day. Review:
This is the usual Internet for business guide, with, unfortunately, the usual
lack of technical information and rigour and the usual lack of feel for
Internet culture. This shortcoming is particularly odd for a pair of
electrical engineers who we are told have been on the Internet for "over a
decade".
The authors have, however, distinguished themselves by providing a series of
pointers to business related resources on the Internet. The layout and design
of the book makes this even more useful: the URLs are contained in marginal
notes, quickly identifiable when browsing and quickly accessed while reading
the text.
The size of the book means that it has to be fairly limited, but those
resources that have been included are not always o...
