The Virtual Bookcase Reviews of 'Activex: Visual Basic 5 Control Creation Edition (Prentice Hall Ptr Activex Series)':

Reviewer amazon.com wrote:
Visual BASIC made Windows programming accessible to the masses--but only in version 5 does it finally offer the crucial ability to build components and controls that could be used to help build other applications. ActiveX Visual BASIC 5 Control Creation Edition explains how you can use Microsoft's free version of Visual BASIC to build ActiveX components that you can embed into other applications or onto your Web pages. Beginning with a rapid overview of the development environment and BASIC syntax, the book eventually delves into the specifics of object-oriented programming in VB5. Gary Cornell and Dave Jezak offer plenty of examples and useful tips, including solutions for common programming tasks.
Reviewer Rob Slade wrote:
This book provides an introduction, overview and examples of programming using Visual Basic 5, the Control Creation Edition (otherwise known as CCE). It includes a CD-ROM with a beta version of CCE, so if you have Windows 95 (or, presumably, NT), you can get started right away. Unfortunately, that is all it does. While broad of scope, the book is short on explanation. The descriptions of ActiveX (and even object-oriented programming) will leave the novice no further enlightened. For those simply wanting an upgrade from existing skills, though, it should be suitable. copyright Robert M. Slade, 1997
