The Virtual Bookcase Reviews of 'Upgrade & Maintain Your PC':
Reviewer Rob Slade wrote:
The Preface to the Second Edition says that the book has been expanded to
include more information on operating systems, right up front. This is a pity,
since Karney's material on software is not very helpful. Once you get passed
those chapters, the book improves.
In dealing strictly with the hardware, the author appears to be more
comfortable and knowledgeable. The explanations can be read easily by the rank
novice. The content, though, often does not go beyond that of the adventurous
intermediate user. The (two) sections on computer viruses are awful (in spite
of the fact that they recommend F-PROT and Integrity Master.) The book's size
seems to owe more to verbosity than to information.
A CD-ROM contains a few utility programs. The bulk of the shareware contained
on it, however, has nothing to do with the topic of the book.
