The Virtual Bookcase Reviews of 'LAN : Disaster Prevention and Recovery':
Reviewer Rob Slade wrote:
This is a solid, lucid and superior book which addresses security and disaster
issues not only for LANs, but for computer systems in general. The writing is
clear. The material is not only practical and based firmly in a common-sense
approach, but is founded on a firm grasp of a wide range of technologies, some
of them very esoteric indeed.
The chapters cover planning, documentation, system reliability, security,
backups, power conditioning, resumption planning and plan testing. Appendices
give sample plans and policies as well as a resource guide. I was, of course,
very interested in the virus section and found it to be far superior to almost
anything I have read in a general work (missing mention only of change
detection and activity monitoring software). The chapter on power
conditioning, as well, is no mere ad for surge protectors, but a thorough and
detailed exploration of the subject.
I have no hesitation in recommending this work to any LAN administrator.
Indeed, I suspect many managers should go through its pages, regardless of
their information architecture.
