The Virtual Bookcase Reviews of 'Developing CGI Applications with Perl':

Reviewer Rob Slade wrote:
Through HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) and HTML (HyperText Markup Language), pages of the W3 (World Wide Web) are able to display, and link to, information. CGI, the Common Gateway Interface, adds another layer of function to the Web, allowing for interactivity and access to programs and applications. Most HTML texts mention CGI, but without giving the necessary detail for those who wish to use it. Deep and Holfelder go into more detail, with specifics of FORM and INPUT HTML elements and CGI methods. Unfortunately, the book assumes a prior knowledge of Perl, plus extensive programming experience. About two thirds of the total space is devoted to source code and explanations of various examples for mail, addition of links, random choices, a guestbook and so forth. For experienced Perl programmers with limited Web background, this provides HTML background plus some ideas. For those getting into the Web with no programming background, this does not provide enough. copyright Robert M. Slade, 1996
