I can't stand this book. There is such a thing as too much description, but that's not even the case here. The flashbacks are utterly random and so horribly boring that it makes you want to skip them. I really did not like this book. Especially because I was forced to read it in school. It was so incredibly boring I ended up making half the story after reading a couple reviews and getting some idea's to what to make it. In all retrospect, I have nothing good on this book, except for the fact that it was about carny's. It had nothing to do with Geek's.

It's a solipsistic funhouse world that makes "normal" people seem bland and pitiful. Arturo the Aqua-Boy, who has flippers and an enormous need to be loved. A museum of sacred monsters that didn't make it. An endearing "little beetle" of a heroine. Sort of like Tod Browning's Freaks crossed with David Lynch and John Irving and perhaps George Eliot -- the latter for the power of the emotions evoked
