Hey peeps.Ok... this is what i've got to say about Harry Potter #5. i thought it was really really GREAT!!! It's amazing how J.K. Rowling organises her characters. She must be really organise huh? Anyways, back to the book. The first chapter was as usual , a horrible time for Harry. I was really thrilled at the part when Harry was rescued by these guards ,, they're called The Advance Guards. I tought that was a thrilling part. JKR really did a great job on creating Professor Umbridge. She's a really hateful person, everytime she does something horrible and injustice to the other students , it makes me wanna rip the whole book!! I really wish she wouldn't come back on the 6th and the 7th book. I think there would be a war on the 6 or 7 book. THe chapter "department of mysteries" was kinda freaky. the part where they showed the Veil, i really think that was freaky(it gives me goosebumps). I wonder what's beyond the veil..could be spirits.......Remember the time Ms. Rowling hinted that happy people don't turn into ghosts. Well this is what i think, Moaning Myrtle died while she was sad and crying because she was teased by a person ( this was on the second book, when Myrtle was explaining how she died to ron and harry )right? WHile Sirius died smiling and happy.(he was happy because he was doing something at last, he was bored stiff at the headquarters. finally he was doing something to help and he was happy because he could do something for the Order) this is what i think.. maybe this is why SIrius didn't become a ghost! ((and remember cedric diggory?..he died happy too remember?. when he touched the portkey , he must have thought both of them will win but no.. instead he died))
any way sorry for that big SPOILER up there/..And u know what else i think .,.... i think ROn is gonna die.. cause in the 5th book ,, chapter >department of mysteries,,harry was looking at the veil , right ? Then he heard voices, whispers and murmurs. Then he said "SIrius?" Then later in the book , Sirius dies...Then he Said "ron?".... so i think later on the 6 or 7 book ROn will Die! oh no!!!
ok this is all what ive got to say !!! im w8ting for the 6th and 7th book just like everybody else! see u around!
PROFESSOR DOLORES UMBRIDGE
Reviewer Rhedd wrote:
For the most part, I enjoyed the book. I purposefully took 2 weeks to read it so that I could take it with me on vacation. However, I could have realistically read it in about a weekend. I must say that I was delighted to see the introduction of the character Luna Lovegood. I also HATED Professor Umbridge but felt that her character gave the book some UMPFF! After reading, I still have some unanswered questions, like 1) what is the real meaning of the veil and Sirius' death (did anyone else find that to be a tad anti-climatic?) 2)a bit of information on the Order of the Phoenix would have been nice too 3)how the heck did Voldermort get away with Bellatrix and moreover, how did he get the Deatheaters out of prison and 4) What did Harry and his classmates get on their O.W.L.S?
On a lighter note, I was pleased to see the development of Dumbledore's Army. Something in my was so hoping that the students would start banding together and helping each other. The last fight scene with Harry, Neville, Hermione, Luna and the Weasleys was EXCELLENT! Although it was a bit hard to believe that kids could defeat Deatheaters, (though practically defeated)these kids certainly held their own. In my opinion, JKR was showing the reader that some things can supercede age, gender, size, etc. The WILL to survive, the thirst to just what is wrong and the sometimes dangerous quest for revenge can push us to limits we have not known. I am anxiously awaiting book 6. I just hope it comes sooner than this one.

I was REALLY looking foreward to this book. I've read the other books about 4 times each, and planned to do the same with this one. However, the ending changed that. I finished the book at 2:30am on the 3rd day of reading, went to bed and still couldn't beleive Sirius had died the following morning. I even cryed over it, and let me tell you, I almost NEVER cry over books or movies. Why did JKR do that, and how can she keep going without him after she made such a big deal of him in the 3rd and 4th books? I thought for sure they'd clear his name, kill that rotton little rat-brained Wormtail and Harry would live with him. I mean, if you've read Lord of the Rings, its as if Tolkien would have killed Aragorn just before he became king, you just can't go on without him. Anyway, enough about Sirius, the rest of the book was pretty good, but it didn't seem to have the dramatic twist that Pof A or even GofF had at the end. Well, maybe I shouldn't say that because I've only read it once and books are usually better the second time. I also could have just been too depressed at the end and too used to the other endings, because when I think about it some parts were very dramatic and took my breath away while I read. Eg. the part where Dumbledore takes on Voldemort. However, the fight between the DA members and the death eaters at the end was just a plain fight. It was like a computer game, it didn't really captivate me like the other endings did, but maybe it would if I read it again. One part that really impressed me was where Harry watches his father tease Snape. It explained, but certainly DIDN'T justify Snape's hatred for Harry. Another thing that was explained well was why Voldemort attacked Harry in the first place which has been a mystery to me ever since Dumbledore refused to tell Harry in the 1st book. I also liked the new characters like Tonks, Kingsley Shacklebolt, and the real Mad-Eye Moody. I didn't really like how Hagrid played such a small part in the book, even if he did play a big part in the story by trying to get the giants on Dumbledore's side. I would have liked to see more of him.
Moving along, the whole ministry thing with Proff. Umbridge seemed a tiny bit unbelievabe because I would have expected Dumbledore or McGonagall to do something about their inturuptions at the school. However, I mostly thought this conflict was a good addition to the main one. It certainly made the reader HATE Fudge, Percy, and Umbridge with all their guts, which proves it was written really well, as usual with JKR. I've read some reviews where the writer says they thought Harry was too dark. I however, expected this and thought it was realistic. Hermione and Ron didn' t just put up with it either, they told Harry off when he needed it, which was good. There was also enough humour, like the parts involving Fred and George to make the dark and light sort of balance. It also got really scary when Harry first had a dream about Mr. Weasley and then the fake one about Sirius. It made me so incredibly frustrated when I found out Harry should have taken Hermione's advice to make sure the dream was real. And when that bloody house elf Kreacher lied, I could have killed him without flinching one bit. In fact, I wish someone had. In conclusion, although Sirius's death hit me hard, I think the plot was well written, even though it was very different from the others. Most parts were good, and there was enough humour to keep me laughing one minute and growling at Umbridge the next. I'm glad there are lots of things left unsolved so I can still really look foreward to the next books, even if there won't be any Sirius.

I finally finshed Harry Potter OotP a few hours ago. Reading through what everone had to say i was totaly shocked to find that people disliked it. Many seem to have become so happy with speculation on the book there was no way Rowling could of lived up to everyone. I on the other hand approached this novel without any idea about what to expect. By the end I decided that this was indeed my favorite. Thats not to say it didn't have its flaws. Almost everything Hagrid did here sucked. His sub plot was wortless, unless JK does someting really important with it later on then its forgivable. ONly when Hagrid made his escape did I injoy his character. That moment rocked and goes down as my fav for him. Wich isint hard seems iv never cared for him much and always dread those night time trips to see him.
BEsides that my only other complaints were being totaly lost during the last fight and harry's personaly close friend dying. I was totaly unmoved by it.
NOw what was great was DA meetings, Fred and Georges leaving, plus the destruction sorounding it. The meeting of Lockheart and Nevils Parents, (heart renching, the only time i ever cried while reading harry potter) Dumbuldors leaving plus his searching for Ron's dad. THat was neat. The total anger towards that most evil thing that makes VOldermort look like a girl guide, (ministry of magic is down in my books as the bigger threat to harry from now on) Harry's new sense of connection with his aunt, and finaly the short lived family like sceans with the Order. The way everyone seemed so happy and loved in only shortly. It was weird the way i was overcome with a feeling of love and belonging. Seemed almost Cultish. That'll give them Bible thumpers something to chew.
Finall I just have to say that I loved the new HArry. HIs Darkend mood seemed much more real and emotioanl and really helped bring all the characters into greater depth. HArry Potter forever.

I am 15, like Harry, and I perfectly agree with Phineas Nigellas: Teens are so up themselves, which makes Harry so realistic. Who could live with a saint as the main character? Grawp: how do you critics know he isn't going to be important later on? The Prophecy: those who were disappointed in it have seen too many chat forums. Sirius and James: can't wait to find out more about this aspect. Makes it worse for Harry. The demise of Sirius: even harder though I didn't mind as much, long as Luna, Neville or Lupin didn't die.
New characters--
Bellatrix Lestrange: how evil can you get before Voldemort. A horrible, terrifying character. Kill her Neville!!!
Umbridge: My worst teachers look like angels in comparison.
Kingsley Shacklebolt: Really like him, nice new addition
Tonks: Wonderfully frustratingly clumsy.
Grawp: absolutely loveable
Antonin Dolohov: one of the most evil characters.
Other aspects--
Snape: feel really sorry for him. Wonder if he and Harry will become closer?
Cho: First loves rarely work. Plus, too much has come between them. I think he'll go for Luna.
This was a five star, fantastic book. Don't spit at it, you're not worthy of that.

On the whole, this boook was good but I don't think JKR should kill off Harry's only (close) family. Sirius was one of my favorite characters! I really thought I would see more of the Ron/Hermione relationship but was disappointed with that as well. This book was confusing because of all the new information and the "mate" talk was a bit much. Don't get me wrong, the book was good, but I wish Hagrid had died instead of Sirius.

I'm not quite finished reading it yet... but book # 5 seems to be living up to the rest of the series. I found some of the scenes VERY funny, particularly with Fred and George.
However, I am somewhat disturbed by some of the messages that this book is sending to children. Umbridge's punishment of Harry with the pen which cuts words into his skin is totally inhumane, and Harry just grins and bears it!!! Ron and Hermione know, and try to persuade Harry to go to McGonnegal or Dumbledore, but Harry doesn't want to show weakness... I am concerned that children who read this book will learn that they should just grin and bear it if they are abused by adults. Harry SHOULD have complained about being tortured, and friends Ron and Hermione should have told an adult about Harry's torture if he wouldn't. Children should be taught to make a stand when they are being abused -- not to hide it.
I think that children should be reading these books only with adult supervision, and discussion of some of the issues raised.

Several people have wondered about the sudden use of British slang in the Order of the Phoenix. I noticed this as well, and I think that the publishers in the US have finally decided that the American reader can decipher it. I was halfway through with the British version of Goblet of Fire on the plane back from England when I realized that it had a lot more swearing than I had remembered. I compared it to the American version which I bought when I returned and I noticed a large number of revisions, mostly with words or phrases that are peculiarly British, such as sneakers instead of trainers and schedules instead of timetables, mostly where an American would be confused. I had my relatives bring me copies of the other British versions, and they have all clearly been edited for American readers. I think that perhaps this time they have allowed the characters to keep more of their anglicisms. There were a couple that I think probably lost many readers, can't recall them now, but I wanted to let everyone who thought that it was a suddent change to know that they've been saying "mate" and "Quidditch pitch" all along.

The book was good, but it did seem empty. The climax I thought was brilliant but the resolution pointless. Everything revealed was either already known or kind of assumed. Even if we did not know the exact facts we kinda could have quessed them or made a general idea. I am truly disappointed with Ginny. She's so flat, and whats with her and all these guys she’s seeing? Hermione is perfect, as usual, but I think she knows too much now. B4 she kind of seemed naive at times. Now, she knows everything about other girls, and guy problems, and kissing. No, she should not know about kissing!
This book was truly a transition book, from the time that Voldy comes back to when the war will begin. But as a transition it becomes weak. Its too big and yet says too little. Harry is scary at times because he's so angry. I think that Fred and George helped make the book better. They really were smart and gave a big boost to the story line. The important thing that we needed was for the book to end strongly. Did it? I think not. The resolution was quite a disappointment. What makes me angry is that they know Harry is not weak and yet they treat him as if he was. They don't tell him anything, but why? I still can't see why. Dumbledore became so horrible in my eyes. Im sorry, but Im blaming him for like everything. He can't just boss Harry around, order him to do things, and not explain why. This is Harry! He'll do whats needed, whats best, but you have to explain why it must be done. Harry only wants to keep everyone safe and happy. He doesen't try to ruin things purposfully. But when everything is hidden from him, then he has to go find eveything out for himself. And this leads to the disaster. The book becomes pointless when everything so easily could have been prevented.
--->Nothing seemed so WOW, or something that Harry
should not have heard before in the prophecy. Why, Why didnt they tell him? This prohecy seems so misunderstood. It points to Harry, yes, but thats
it. It was true and thats that. Voldy doesent need it anymore. Can't
he kill Harry with the killing curse?-Yeah, Harry is too smart for
Voldy but hes not undefeatable. We, already kinda knew that one of
them must, in the end, die.
And in the end, the scar is still connecting them, no? What did we get in the end, except a horrible death...except more tragedy. The only good is that now everyone will believe the truth...but is the cost too high?--perhaps not?
I am glad the CHo/Harry thing was done and explored but of coarse Cho is going to be so emotional, so high strung. Can you blame her? Harry doesen't understand but do any guys truly do?
The climax of the book was fantastic, better than any others of the
past books but the resolution left me empty. I think thats the main point im trying to say. I love Ms. Rowling and I still love HP! Please, don't get me wrong, but I really hope she makes it up with the next books. Im really curious as to how she takes all these criticisms.
