I just can't believe sirius died. I'm glad Harry and Cho have split up though. They were just not right for each other. Cho and Marcus Flint are perfect for each other and Harry and Hermione would look so great toghether. My predictions for future relationships are:
Ron and Luna
Draco and Ginny
Harry and Hermione
Millicent and Goyle
Pansy and Crabbe

Order of the Phoenix was a little "slow paced" compared to the other four books. there was little action which left the reader more time to think of what would happen next. Although i really hated the part that Sirius had to die, and i really hated Harry for being so arrogant 'cause its really his fault that Sirius died. But i couldn't really blame him, I would feel the same way. Its so nice that JKR was so honest about Harry's emotions: the yelling, his insecurities, his anger, his impatience. JKR made Harry so human, she showed us the side of Harry that's not so good. I would also like to comment on Aleen B's review, maybe Harry couldn't see the thestrals before coz maybe you really had to see AND remember someone dying. anyway, on to Cho and Harry, well i really think its good that Harry didn't really end up with her, she's quite close-minded really.. feeling jealous over Hermione and all. stupid girl. and all the Characters in Book 5 were what really made the book as good as it is, there's Tonks, Luna, Sirius's mum(such a character!), Bellatrix, Umbridge (i remember having a strong urge to tear the book to pieces everytime she's mentioned! (--,) ),the centaurs, and the Order of the Phoenix. I was really disturbed though of James, i actually felt sorry for Snivelly.. but still, i cannot deny that Snape is annoyingly obnoxious and UNFair to Harry. all in all i woul give this book a four. its very good, what with Harry growing up and dealing with adolescent pangs, and JKR being extremely honest to us avid fans. it may be a bit "slow" but it is a worthwhile read! i can't wait for the 6th book, I'm really hoping that Sirius is not really dead 'coz JK did't really explain what happens "beyond the veil". i hope that by next year (or sooner) the 6th book would be out!

I think that this book is the best by far of the series. I was pleased to see an end of the Harry/Cho romance. However, I would like to have learned more about Viktor's romance with Hermione. Was there any true romance there? And if so, how did it break up? As for Balck's death, I don't think that he was killed before falling through the archway. It has been pointed out that he was struck by a red colored jet. Whereas we all know that it really takes a green ray to kill you. However, what I found to be the most interesting and exciting was Dumbledor's Army (DA). I can just envision all of the younger fans pretending to be in DA's army, and fighting Death Eaters. A brilliant stroke by JKR. I wasn't concerned when Harry was snapping at every body. It seems to me that sometimes he just had to let go or burst from carrying it inside. Incidentally, I am 78 years old and live in Paradise, Pago Pago, American Samoa. I am probably one of the most rabid of all JKR's fans. As with the rest of you, I can't wait for book 6. I look for Harry to be named Top Boy inm Book 7, and I look for HP and Hg to get married at the end of book 7 - could it end any better than that?

I loved this book, as I have loved all of them. I thought it was "darker" and not so "perfect and sweet" like the others have been. In the other four books, everything was always wrapped up really nice and they ended on a good note, (well, Harry going back to his Aunt and Uncle's is never a "good note", but everyone was always fine and all). This one had Sirius dying. I almost couldn't believe it. I loved Sirius. I was always hoping his named would have been cleared and he could really be the Godfather Harry had needed and wanted. But, this would have been the "perfect ending" that the others had. JKR knew that we would expect this, she through us an ending that was not her usual. I hated that Sirius died. I guess in real life, we don't always have perfect endings either, and since she is moving toward Harry "growing up" maybe she knew she needed to make him tougher. I think it sucks though, that he has for the most part had a pretty awful life. If only his parents hadn't died, or Sirus hadn't been accused of Peter's crime, his life would have been great, he probably would have ended up like his dad, Lupin and Sirius. Happy, kinda full of himself, confident. But then again, if all of that would have happened, there wouldn't have been any Harry Potter books to start with would there? I can not wait for the 6th book!

I loved the fifth book, but i do think its a little too childish... I mean, Harry is fifteen, and all he and Cho does is kissing? I thought that was stuff for, like, thirteen years old. Im not saying that the 'first time' always occur when you are fifteen, but its the avarge. And someone asked who wrote the Harry Potter and the psychic serpent? I have an answer for that. It's a so called 'fanfiction' written by an author with the nick 'Barb'. Read all her stuff, its fantastic! and since its fanfiction, its free. I REALLY didnt like the way JK killed Sirius, but in the Psychic Serpent he's still alive. Barb has written more than just the fifth book. Shes also written HP and the time of good intensions (book 6), HP and the triangle prophecy (book 7) and The lost generation (a book about Harrys Parents and Bill Weasley). Well, now since it is the fifth "REAL" book im reviewing, i guess i should leave that subject. The new character, Luna Lovegood, rules! I love her! She's so... wierd. She's so... Cool. Rock on, Luna! She's the kind of person that i am, a bit strange and wierd in a funny way. i identify myself in her in JK's books, and with Ron in Barbs books... Well, rock on Harry Potter fans!

You didn't read the final version. As far as I can remember, there was NO rape scene. Only thing really pertaining to love was when Harry kissed Cho and when Roger Davies was making out with his girlfriend. That's all. End of story.

I personally simply loved the book, but the death of Sirius just made me feel completly else. But it's not true that there's no point ... i mean, i loved him - he was one of my favorite character - but usually, everything's perfect in this book-almost-...so...maybe it has something good in it. Anyway, I think he'll come back in the next books. JKRowling didn't say much about the archway...she just let us think about what it could be. I think the reason could be: she didn't want us to think he will come back, to leave a little suspens...so, she just didn't say a lot about it. That's it.
For Harry & Cho, I think it's a great idea to bring something like this in the book...I mean, they're 15 years old now, there's no point of hiding this kind of stuff. Anyway, like everyone says - it b rings a new subject in the book, and I personally think that's really good. And there’s no sex – I mean they only kissed!
I was really really shocked when I heard what James had done - he was a complete ... idiot. What was the point of doing that to Snape? And Sirius, too!
During the first 4 books, I hated Snape. But after reading ToOtP, I really begin to like him. But still, Harry doesn't deserve to be treated like that. Because he fortunately is NOT like his father!
I am giving this book 5/5. I think the pages +- 30-100 are kind of boring, but I just simply loved the rest of the book. It’s my favourite! Harry just acts like…different. He has grown up. Shouting at Dumbledore, girls, anger, crying…I just think it’s really good JKR finally made him grow up.
I also loved the DA stuff – that was REALLY original. And seeing back all these old characters makes the book even better.
But the best thig was the thing with the weapon…they tell it to you at the beginning of the book, and you know it’s really important…but you just get it at the end of the book. It’s just unimaginable – a “weapon” – a prophecy? JKR has a REALLY, really good fantasy and imagination.
And by the way…who read Harry Potter And The Psychic Serpent?? Who wrote it, when and why? I began to read it…it looks really fun!
I would just want to know something about the archway: did Sirius die BECAUSE he fell into it, or BEFORE he fell into it? I think (but I'm really not sure) it's because he fell into it. Because, look: they said, out of Bellatrix Lestranges want came out a RED jet of light...that means she didn't do the Avada Kedavra. Because Harry remembers, when he was a baby, a GREEN jet of light killing his parents. That should mean, that this jet of light just kicked him, and he died in the second that he passed the archway.
It actually can be the other way, but that wouldn't really make sense. I'll wait for HP 6 - there'll surely be more details.

Oh my gosh..this book was really really awesome...but what is up with Ginny Weasley and her sudden skankiness? All these boys and suddenly she's all tough? I liked her better as a sweet and innocent girl. Also, I hope JKR tells us the whole deal about the veil in the Dept. of Mysteries, because I wasn't sure I really got what the meaning of it was. I know its death, but its got something else to it. And couldn't Voldemort find out what the prophecy said by a Pensieve? He could get Bellatrix's account of the night and he can see other parts of the memory just like Harry did with his dad, unless Dumbledore is the only one with a Pensieve. And why couldn't harry see the thestrals straight off because he already saw his parents killed as a baby! There was some weird stuff like that but Sirius's death totally killed me, he was one of my favorite characters..I cried! I am still wondering why Harry didn't ask some more questions about his parents like what they did and why he didn't remember that mirror that Sirius gave him sooner because then he wouldn't have gone to the Dept. of Mysteries in the first place and wouldn't have gotten caught by Umbridge and would have saved himself a lot of grief. I think the prophecy explains a lot of questions, but I just hope JKR answers all of the other lingering questions. But I thought that the books could only really end in one of two ways...either Harry lives or they both die...cuz JKR would never let Voldemort win in the end. I think this book was totally great, but the fact that Sirius's death was so much sadder than Cedric's kinda made it a bummer in the end. Don't think that I don't like this book though, cuz it was the best 10 hours I ever spent reading it!all day looong...I can't wait for the 6th book!!! I hope it comes out quickly or i'll just die of anxiety!

WHY THE HELL DID SIRIUS NEED TO DIE???? I think it was completely pointless. True, that it gives harry an more personal motive to kill voldermort- to get even, but surely the character of Sirius Black had a lot more to offer being alive than dead! He could have explained more about Harry's parents'
involvement in the original order (because it never actually says that they were all aurors) and about what it actually was that Snape did that made Dumbledore trust him so much. i also think there really should have been some sort of face off between wormtail, and sirius & lupin after what happened in book 3! I think Book 5 was such an obvious 'filler' that it was unbelieveable! There was no real story and it was obvious that whole point of the book was tokill Harry's closest family (sort of) and clue him in to the fact that he has to kill voldermort or be killed, AS IF THAT WASN'T OBVIOUS FROM THE WORD GO? As for the 'so-called' overuse of UK slang, GET A GRIP! it's written by a british author and set in england what do you expect? Why
should it have to be made 'american friendly' and have all the dialogues and jokes torn apart ? Giving the weasleys a slang accent tells the reader about their personality and their background, so they should be left in. I think now that Siruis and James are both dead, its only a matter of time before Lupin and Wormtail meet. I think Lupin might be killed so that the only person left from the 'old gang' would be Wormtail and so something might happen between harry and him. Because in book 3 dumbledore says that there is a bond between tham coz wormtail owes harry his life so i suspect that wormtail might help harry escape voldermort's clutches or something after a very overdue pang of guilt over what he's done - especially if voldermort is really cruel to wormtail (as he never does anything for anyone else usually). I loved the part when harry got to see what his dad and his friends were like at school and he finds out first hand why snape hates him so much. I think this book ad alot more funnier parts and parts that i really didn't see comming like the fact that mrs figg was a squib and the reapperance of Rita Skeeter and ofcourse Gilderoy Lockhart. Overall it was quite a fun book but just wasn't what it could have been-there could have been even more depth into the history and the darkness of the story- its still a bit 'sugar-coated' . i think the new defence against the arts teacher could be one of 5 people 1) Lupin could be reinstated (though this is unlikely as people would complain) 2) Dumbledore might volunteer to teach some classes as it is now
so important that the pupils are taught defence 3) or maybe snape would teach the classes if theres no other option or 4) Another new
teacher could come in who is from the order e.g. the real Mad Eye Moody or 5) A stranger (maybe a woman), possibly from one of the character's past like someone's ex- but whoever the new character would be they would definately hav an important part to play in Harry's life and the order. Luna will play some big part in bk 6 and i think Sirus will probably be brought back in some way by the end. But to end i'v e got a few questions- *Will harry die by the end? * Will Dumbledore die? *Will there be any kind of memorial for black? * Will Grimmald place remain the headquarters? * will buckbeak go back to hargrid? * Will there even be any need for the order now that the ministry know what is going on? Will we ave have to wait another 3 years to find out? I SOMEHOW THINK SO!!!

I am 25, I come from Russia but I have read HP V (and all other HP books) in English, as there is actually no problem for me with that (I am a teacher of English). The second reason: Russian translations are complete failure and HP V in Russian will be released later. I find the book V really fascinating. A lot of things, both favourable and disapproving, were said in the reviews here and there is no need to repeat them. Rowling is a master of surprise. Am I the only one or there is somebody else shocked by the fact that Harry's father was not that ideal? James Potter, Harry's hero, his source of comfort and consolation through all these miserable years at the Dursleys', turned out to be a school bully! James was reckless and cruel and I hated the way he had haunted and mocked the young Snape. I sympathise with Snape more now (still I do not think that Harry deserves such attitude).
I have also my comments with regard to the opinion that Sirius's death is senseless. I agree with one of the reviewers - does death have any sense at all? There is one quotation from Mikhail Bulgakov's "Master and Margarita" that will do in this case:
'Yes, man is mortal, but that would be only half the trouble. The worst of it is that he's sometimes unexpectedly mortal - there's the trick!'
That's it, there is nothing left to say.
Yes, the book is a little bit dragging but it is not at all boring. And that Umbridge woman… What I especially disliked was the detention she had given Harry, I mean the magic quill she used on him as a punishment. There are fascists even among wizards, I suppose. I also think that Rowling is right not to reveal all the unsolved mysteries of the book to the reader. It is good that we have questions and there are a lot of unclear things left, it guarantees that we will be looking forward to a new book in the HP series. For example, how James and Lily ended up in marriage, or the secret of the veil, or the prophecy that can be interpreted differently (Harry - Neville), or the fact that James and Lily defeated the One-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named twice.
I also have my favourite one-liner, it's about grades in OWL's. Do you remember? As one of the twins says "T" - stands for TROLL. I nearly laughed my head off. When my cousin brought a bad mark from school I said that he got a "T", he asked why and I explained (he got offended).
I cannot really decide which book of the series I like best, each book has something that attracts the reader and holds their attention till the end.
I would also like to say some words about funfiction (we also have it, only in Russian). I have read one fanfic (we call it like that) and it was not that bad. I even thought that the author should think about starting their own career instead of feeding on Rowling's ideas. The fanfic started with the introduction of a new character and, consequently, a new DADA teacher, her name was Valerie Evergreen. The idea of the author was that she was a latent. According to the author, the latent is a person whose magical abilities develop late but they are very powerful wizards. When at Hogwarts Valerie was better than anyone else and completed a course doing two years in one. Harry, Ron and Hermione have gone through many adventures (of course, they should!) The book ended tragically with the death of one of the twins, Cho and Hargrid. Besides, there was no sex and violence in it. Sorry for mistakes that can come up in my review. Well, I think I must stop here, thanks for this discussion.
